In a shocking display of audacity, 23-year-old Godwin Emmanuel, an armed robbery suspect, has confessed to stealing a police officer's phone while being transported to the Osun State Police Command in a patrol van. This daring act occurred after his arrest along with two others, Olajide Kareem (28) and Mike Emmanuel (33), for allegedly robbing residents and motorists of their belongings.
Their crimes allegedly included sexually assaulting a 65-year-old woman on the Ilesa-Osu Expressway while she was taking her husband to the hospital. A bus driver was also shot in the leg during one of the incidents and was rushed to Seventh-day Adventist Hospital in Ile-Ife for treatment .
Godwin claimed he stole the phone to inform his family about his whereabouts, as they were unaware of his arrest. He removed the SIM card and intended to use the phone to call his people. However, his plan was foiled when police searched him in the cell and discovered the stolen phone.
The Osun State Police Command's Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, revealed that Godwin and his accomplices were notorious for their crimes. Olajide Kareem confessed to being part of a five-man gang of armed robbers from Ikorodu, Lagos State, who perpetrated crimes in Osun State.
The Anti-Kidnapping Squad's intelligence-driven investigation and tactical operations led to the arrest of Mike Emmanuel and Godwin Emmanuel in Majidun, Ikorodu. The suspects confessed to their crimes during interrogation.
This brazen heist raises concerns about security measures within law enforcement agencies and the audacity of criminal elements in Nigeria. The case is ongoing, and the public awaits further developments.
