Crying Out for Justice: Ebonyi Man Sentenced to Death Claims Innocence

Sampson Ogochukwu, a native of Ebonyi State, has made a heartfelt appeal for help after being sentenced to death by hanging at Ikeja High Court on October 31, 2024. In a viral video, Ogochukwu professes his innocence, claiming he was wrongly convicted for a 2017 robbery incident in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, where he worked as a security guard.

Ogochukwu's ordeal began when his friend invited him to Lagos in 2017 and later orchestrated the robbery alongside a gang of criminals. He alleges that he was tied up, robbed, and later abandoned in a remote area. Instead of fleeing, Ogochukwu chose to return to his boss and report the incident, leading to his arrest.

In a shocking twist, the actual perpetrators were discharged, while Ogochukwu received the death sentence for allegedly allowing the robbery to occur. This verdict has sparked outrage, with many questioning the fairness of the justice system.

Ogochukwu is currently being held at Kirikiri Maximum Prison, Room 4, where he awaits assistance. He appeals to his fellow Igbo people, Ebonyi State sons, and human rights organizations to intervene and provide legal aid for an appeal. The case bears resemblance to that of Cameron Todd Willingham, who was wrongfully convicted and executed in Texas in 2004 .

The public is urged to demand a thorough review of this case and ensure that justice is served. As Ogochukwu's cry for help resonates across social media, concerns about Nigeria's justice system and potential miscarriages of justice are raised.
