Dozens Killed others Injured As Armed Bandits Launch Deadly Attack in Niger Christain Towns (VIDEO)
Kawo, Niger State – November 6, 2025
Fear and grief have once again gripped Niger State following a brutal attack by armed bandits on Kawo community late Wednesday evening. The assailants, reportedly numbering over thirty and heavily armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the quiet settlement in a coordinated assault that left many residents critically injured and several others missing.
The attackers opened fire indiscriminately, setting houses ablaze and looting shops before retreating into the nearby forests. Panic-stricken villagers fled into the bush and neighboring communities to escape the onslaught.
Emergency responders and local vigilante members immediately swung into action, evacuating the injured to the Kontagora General Hospital in Nasarawa State. According to hospital sources, the facility was overwhelmed as victims poured in with varying degrees of injuries — from gunshot wounds to machete cuts and burns.
“The situation here is heartbreaking,” a nurse at the emergency ward told reporters. “The hospital floor is soaked with blood. We are short of medical supplies, and our staff are working round the clock to stabilize the victims.”
Local authorities have yet to confirm the official casualty figure, but unverified reports suggest that several people may have lost their lives in the assault. Security forces have since been deployed to the area to forestall further attacks and to begin manhunt operations for the perpetrators believed to be operating from the forests connecting Niger, Kebbi, and Zamfara States.
The latest incident adds to the growing wave of banditry and insecurity plaguing parts of Niger State and the wider North-Central region. Communities like Kawo, Kontagora, and Mariga have suffered repeated attacks despite ongoing military operations aimed at flushing out criminal elements from the region.
Human rights advocates and community leaders have renewed their calls on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to protect rural dwellers who continue to live in constant fear of such violent attack
