Nigeria Government Vows to Crush New Terrorist Group Lakurawa

Nigeria's National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has declared that the President Bola Tinubu administration will eliminate the new terrorist group, Lakurawa, from the country. Speaking at the 2024 Comptroller-General of Customs Conference in Abuja, Ribadu emphasized that the Nigerian government is fully committed to countering the terror group .

Lakurawa, which has recently emerged in the north-western states of Sokoto and Kebbi, has already claimed lives. On November 8, the group reportedly killed 15 people in an attack on Mera village in Augie LGA, Kebbi State . The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) confirmed the presence of the Lakurawa group in Sokoto and Kebbi states last week.

Ribadu highlighted recent successes against Boko Haram, describing the terror group as "decimated" and noting that members are now fleeing to neighboring countries due to Nigeria's intensified counterterrorism efforts . He attributed these gains to the strategic measures implemented under President Bola Tinubu's administration.

The Nigerian government is taking measures to address the security challenge posed by Lakurawa. Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar confirmed that the government is working to crush the group . "The (acting) Chief of Army Staff has visited the areas and he has discussed with other service chiefs on how to crush these people," Abubakar said.

President Tinubu's administration has also made progress in various sectors, including increased crude oil production in the Niger Delta and fiscal reforms by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). "Crude oil production has hit 1.8 million bpd, and the central bank has been sanitized. No one is taking a dime from the CBN," Ribadu said .

The president commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its role in enhancing revenue generation and promoting trade facilitation. "Our commitment to sustainable economic reforms, trade facilitation, and creating an enabling business environment is firm and irreversible," Tinubu said.

As Nigeria continues to face security challenges, the administration's determination to combat terrorism and promote economic growth will be crucial in shaping the country's future. With the government's commitment to crushing Lakurawa and addressing economic challenges, Nigerians can expect a safer and more prosperous future.
