Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Wike, has revealed that rights activist Deji Adeyanju approached him seeking his support to become the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, a plea Wike rejected. This rejection allegedly led Adeyanju to become an emergency activist, using every opportunity to attack Wike's administration .
Adeyanju, a prominent figure in Nigerian activism, was born on December 19, 1979, in Kogi State, Nigeria. He is known for his fearless advocacy for social change and has been involved in various high-profile campaigns against government policies and actions deemed unjust or oppressive
The tension between Wike and Adeyanju escalated when Adeyanju led a protest against Wike over the demolition of Ruga, a settlement along the Metro line corridor in Wuye District. Wike had vowed to continue demolishing shanties and illegal structures in the territory, stating that the government would not succumb to blackmail.
During a live media chat, Wike shared that Adeyanju came to him seeking his blessings to become the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, but he turned him down. Wike stated that Adeyanju, who became jobless after the rejection, has now turned to emergency activism.
Adeyanju has been a vocal critic of government policies and has organized protests and campaigns against police brutality and corruption. His activism has earned him recognition and awards, including the 2018 "100 Most Influential Young Nigerians" award.
Despite facing arrests and threats, Adeyanju remains committed to his cause. His personal experiences and the support of his family have been vital in sustaining his commitment to activism .
