Nigeria @65: ADC Enugu Calls for Reflection, Remembrance, and Renewed Hope

Enugu, Nigeria – October 1st, 2025 – As Nigeria celebrates its 65th Independence Anniversary, the Enugu State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has extended its congratulations to Nigerians and Ndi Enugu while urging the country to use the occasion for sober reflection.

In a statement issued in Enugu, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. David C. Ani, lamented that six and a half decades after independence, Nigerians continue to face insecurity, economic hardship, corruption, unemployment, and general instability.

“It is unfortunate that our yesterday has always seemed better than our today. Nigeria is a blessed country, but sadly, it has remained in the wrong hands since independence in 1960,” Hon. Ani stated.

He further recalled the dark chapter of the Nigeria-Biafra civil war, which claimed the lives of more than four million people, mostly Igbos, describing it as an “unforgettable tragedy that still echoes in the nation’s conscience.”

“Despite the painful scars of the war, we must acknowledge the resilience of our people and the enduring reality that Nigeria remains one indivisible nation,” he added.

Hon. Ani explained that as part of the Independence Day activities, ADC Enugu organized a symbolic “handshake across Enugu State,” signifying peace, unity, and the determination of citizens to build a brighter future.

Looking ahead, he reaffirmed the commitment of the African Democratic Congress to provide credible leadership at both the state and national levels.

“The ADC is determined to take over the government of Nigeria and Enugu State come 2027. We encourage Nigerians to join hands with us because ADC remains the only true hope for a new and better Nigeria. With collective courage, unity, and the right leadership, Nigeria will rise again,” Hon. Ani declared.

The party emphasized that while independence should be celebrated, it must also serve as a reminder of the urgent need for visionary leadership, national rebirth, and genuine service to the people.
