Fear and Tension Grip Ondo Community as Two Residents Found Dead in Bushes Within One Month

Akure Nigeria, 14th May 2026

Residents of Akotogbo community in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State are currently living in fear following the mysterious deaths of two residents whose bodies were discovered in separate bushes within the community over the last one month.

The tragic incidents, which have unsettled the once peaceful agrarian settlement, have sparked widespread panic among locals who now worry about the growing insecurity in the area and the possibility of further attacks.

The deceased victims were identified as Loyinmi Bode and Andrew Friday. According to residents, the two men were found dead at different times and in separate isolated locations within the community under circumstances that remain unclear.

Sources within the area revealed that the discovery of the bodies sent shockwaves across Akotogbo, with many residents expressing fears over what they described as a disturbing pattern of violence and unexplained deaths.

Community members said the incidents have created an atmosphere of anxiety, especially among farmers and traders who often travel through lonely paths and bush routes for their daily activities. Some residents reportedly now avoid going to their farms alone, while others have called for increased security patrols in the area.

A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity described the situation as frightening, noting that the community had never experienced such repeated incidents within a short period.

“We are scared because nobody knows who may be next. People are now afraid to move around freely, especially in the evenings. The government and security agencies need to act fast before the situation gets out of hand,” the resident said.

The killings have also triggered calls from concerned residents and community leaders for urgent intervention by the Ondo State Government and security agencies to restore calm and ensure the protection of lives and property.

Confirming the development on Wednesday, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, SP Abayomi Jimoh, said the command had already deployed operatives to Akotogbo and neighbouring communities to strengthen security and prevent any breakdown of law and order.

According to Jimoh, the police remain fully committed to safeguarding residents across the state and ensuring that those behind the incidents are identified and prosecuted.

“The command is fully aware of these developments and remains resolute in its constitutional mandate of protecting the lives and property of all law-abiding residents of Ondo State,” he stated.

He further disclosed that additional security measures had been introduced in the affected community as part of efforts to restore confidence among residents and maintain peace.

Jimoh also confirmed that investigations into the deaths of the two victims had commenced, assuring residents that the police would leave no stone unturned in uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incidents.

“We have intensified efforts to investigate the matter thoroughly. Necessary deployments have been made to the area to forestall any further security threat, while detectives are working to unravel those responsible for these acts,” he added.

Meanwhile, the incidents have continued to generate serious concern across the local government area, with many residents lamenting what they perceive as increasing insecurity in rural communities.

Some community stakeholders have urged the state government to establish more security outposts in vulnerable settlements, arguing that rural communities often suffer delayed security responses due to their remote locations.
