Federal Government Declares Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day as Public Holidays

In a move to celebrate the festive season, the Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Wednesday, December 25, Thursday, December 26, 2024, and Wednesday, January 1, 2025, as public holidays. This declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government, as announced by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended warm greetings to all Nigerians, urging them to use the festive period to reflect on the values of love, peace, and unity that the season signifies. He emphasized the importance of the season as a time to foster harmony and strengthen bonds across families and communities. The Minister also called on Nigerians to remain committed to the peace, unity, and progress of the nation for national development.

According to Dr. Tunji-Ojo, "The Christmas season is a good moment for both spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us demonstrate kindness and extend goodwill to one another, irrespective of our differences." He assured citizens of the Federal Government's continued commitment to ensuring peace, security, and prosperity across the nation.

The Minister expressed his confidence in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu's Administration, which he believes will usher in a better and prosperous economy in the new year. This move is seen as a positive step towards promoting unity and harmony among Nigerians, especially during the festive season.

It's worth noting that this declaration is in line with the government's annual tradition of declaring public holidays during the Christmas and New Year's season. Last year, the government declared December 25, 26, 2023, and January 1, 2024, as public holidays .

As Nigerians prepare to celebrate the festive season, the government's declaration is expected to bring some relief and joy to the citizens, who have been facing various challenges in recent times. The Christmas and New Year's celebrations are a time for families and friends to come together, reflect on the past year, and look forward to a brighter future.
