Midnight Horror in Kogi: Terrorists Storm Community, Kill Resident, Abduct Over 30 Including Commercial Bus Passengers

Looks, 1st June 2026

Residents of Ayegunle Bunu community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State were thrown into panic and mourning in the early hours of Monday after suspected terrorists launched a deadly attack on the community, killing one person and abducting more than 30 others, including passengers travelling in a commercial bus.

The attack, which occurred at approximately 2:25 a.m. on June 1, 2026, has once again raised serious concerns over the worsening security situation across parts of Kogi State and the increasing vulnerability of communities located along major highways.

According to information gathered by GLINTNEWS, the heavily armed assailants stormed the community under the cover of darkness, unleashing terror on residents and travellers. During the invasion, one resident was reportedly shot dead while another sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical attention.

Local sources disclosed that the gunmen operated freely for several minutes without any form of resistance before carrying out a mass abduction that has left families devastated and the community gripped by fear.

Reports from local news platform, Egbe Mekun Parrot, revealed that among those kidnapped were two residents of Ayegunle Bunu — a man and a woman. However, the majority of the victims were reportedly passengers travelling in a commercial bus that was intercepted by the terrorists while passing through the area.

Witnesses said the attackers forced the passengers out of the vehicle at gunpoint before marching them into a nearby forest. The exact number of abducted passengers remains unclear, but sources estimate that more than 30 people were taken away during the operation.

Residents described the incident as one of the most frightening attacks witnessed in recent times, noting that the criminals appeared well-coordinated and familiar with the terrain. The attackers reportedly escaped with their victims to an unknown destination before security operatives could respond.

The latest attack has intensified fears among residents and road users, particularly along routes connecting Kogi State to neighbouring Kwara State, where concerns over kidnappings and violent crimes have continued to grow.

Community leaders and concerned residents have called on security agencies and the government to intensify efforts to secure the area, rescue the abducted victims, and prevent further attacks on innocent citizens.
