Political Storm in Enugu East: Stakeholders Reject Alleged Second-Term Endorsement of Council Chairman Dan Anike

A major political controversy has erupted in Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State following strong reactions from prominent political stakeholders who have publicly distanced themselves from a widely circulated report claiming that Hon. Pastor Beloved Dan Anike received a collective endorsement for a second term as Executive Chairman of the council.

The development has sparked fresh debate over internal political alignments and consultation processes within the local government structure, with stakeholders accusing the promoters of the endorsement of attempting to mislead the public and manufacture political consensus where none exists.

In a strongly worded statement signed by Clinton Aniji on behalf of Enugu East APC stakeholders, political leaders and influential figures across the local government categorically dismissed the purported endorsement, describing it as deceptive, unauthorized, and lacking legitimacy.

According to the stakeholders, the publication being circulated across various media platforms falsely suggested that a broad coalition of political leaders and stakeholders from Enugu East had unanimously resolved to support Hon. Dan Anike for another term in office. They argued that the narrative was deliberately designed to create a false impression of widespread political support ahead of future political calculations within the area.

In their statements reads:

"Our attention has been drawn to a misleading report circulating in sections of the media claiming that stakeholders of Enugu East Local Government Area endorsed Hon. Pastor Beloved Dan Anike for a second term as Chairman."

The group noted that while they would ordinarily have ignored what they described as a baseless publication, the scale of circulation and the alleged attempt to present a minority gathering as the collective voice of Enugu East made it necessary to respond publicly.

"No Stakeholders' Endorsement Took Place"

The stakeholders maintained that at no point was any legitimate stakeholders' meeting convened where such a resolution was discussed or adopted.

According to them, the event allegedly presented as an endorsement gathering was reportedly coordinated by Hon. Eddy Nnaji and Hon. Christopher Ugwu, allegedly acting on behalf of Hon. Dan Anike.

They claimed that rather than a genuine gathering of recognized stakeholders, the meeting consisted largely of a select group of political associates and loyalists.

The statement further alleged that the gathering could not under any objective or democratic standard be interpreted as a representation of the collective decision of Enugu East political stakeholders.

Political observers within the local government noted that stakeholder endorsements traditionally involve broad consultation across political leaders, elected officials, party executives, traditional political actors, and community influencers before any declaration of consensus is reached.

The protesting stakeholders argued that such procedures were completely absent in the alleged endorsement process.

Stakeholders Raise Questions Over Process

Adding another layer to the controversy, the group accused the Executive Chairman of converting what was supposed to be a primary election exercise involving aspirants for Enugu East Urban and Rural House of Assembly positions into a political endorsement event.

According to the statement, stakeholders had attended strictly for the purpose of participating in and observing the primary election process and not for endorsing any individual for a second tenure.

The statement further alleged that several attempts were made during the gathering to remind organizers that no prior agreement existed regarding an endorsement agenda.

However, according to the stakeholders, those concerns were allegedly ignored.

The group described the situation as unfortunate and claimed that despite objections raised by attendees, efforts to halt the process did not yield results.

More significantly, they alleged that some stakeholders expressed their dissatisfaction by staging a walkout from the venue.

Political analysts say such public disagreements may indicate emerging cracks within political structures in Enugu East, particularly as discussions around future leadership arrangements continue to gather momentum.

The stakeholders emphasized that many influential political leaders and respected actors in Enugu East politics either boycotted the gathering entirely or reportedly walked out in protest.

Those listed include:Edward Ubosi, former Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly.Hon. Cornelius Nnaji ,Felix Nnamani,Peace Patrick Nnaji, Okey Igbokwe ,Osita Okoh, Raymond Ugwu,Greg Nnaji, Livinus Nze Anike,Mathis Anike,Godwin Ike Ochu and many others 

The stakeholders also stated that the entire APC local government structure, ward executives, councillors, and numerous other political actors across the local government area did not participate.

According to them, the absence of these figures significantly undermines the credibility of the endorsement claim.

"The conspicuous absence of these key political actors whose influence and contributions to Enugu East politics are widely recognized renders the purported endorsement invalid and inconsequential," the statement added.

The stakeholders further described the development as an assault on democratic values and political inclusiveness.

They argued that no small group of individuals possesses the authority to speak on behalf of the entire political structure of Enugu East without broad consultation and consensus-building.

According to them, leadership decisions affecting the future political direction of the local government should emerge through transparent engagement and collective agreement rather than through selective gatherings.

They warned that attempts to manufacture endorsements could create unnecessary tension and deepen divisions within the political landscape.

Consequently, the stakeholders called on members of the public, party supporters, and the Enugu State Government to disregard the endorsement entirely.

They insisted that the alleged endorsement neither represents the position nor reflects the collective will of genuine stakeholders across Enugu East.

The statement concluded with a broader appeal for leadership built on inclusion, accountability, and popular acceptance.

"Enugu East deserves leadership that is inclusive, accountable, and acceptable to the majority of its people."
