Terror in Borno: Many Feared Abducted as Boko Haram Storms School Near Sambisa Forest

Nigeria, 15 May 2026

Panic and confusion have gripped residents of Mussa village in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State after suspected members of Boko Haram/ISWAP reportedly invaded a primary and junior secondary school in the community, with many students feared abducted during the attack.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday at Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School, a rural learning facility located close to the dreaded Sambisa Forest, long known as a hideout for insurgents operating in the North-East.

According to sources within the community, heavily armed terrorists riding on motorcycles stormed the school premises shortly after security operatives conducting routine patrols had left the area. Witnesses said the attackers arrived barely 10 to 15 minutes after troops departed, raising fears that the insurgents had been monitoring the movement of security personnel before launching the assault.

Residents said the sudden invasion triggered chaos across the village as terrified pupils and teachers fled in different directions to escape the attackers. While some students reportedly escaped into nearby bushes, the whereabouts of several others remain unknown, fueling fears of mass abduction.

A social media user identified as Solomon Mussa drew attention to the incident in an emotional post, calling for prayers for the affected community.

“Good morning, beloved. Please pray for the Mussa Boko Haram attack in Mussa village now. According to a report coming out from Mussa, school children were affected,” he wrote.

Confirming the development, the Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Askira, described the attack as disturbing and heartbreaking.

“Yes, I can confirm to you that some suspected terrorists riding on motorcycles invaded primary and junior secondary schools in Mussa village this morning,” he said.

The lawmaker explained that details surrounding the number of victims abducted were still unclear at the time of filing this report, noting that many students managed to escape into surrounding bushes during the attack.

“Information at my disposal was that many of the students fled into the bush, but I don’t have details of those abducted yet,” he stated.

He further lamented the timing of the attack, stressing that the terrorists appeared to have carefully observed troop movements before carrying out the operation.

“It is also disheartening that the incident took place barely a few minutes after troops on patrol left the community. This signifies that the insurgents or attackers were spying on the movement of troops before they struck,” the Deputy Speaker added.

The latest attack has once again raised serious concerns over the safety of schools and rural communities in parts of northern Nigeria still battling insurgency more than a decade after Boko Haram began its violent campaign.

Communities around Sambisa Forest have repeatedly suffered deadly raids, kidnappings, and attacks despite ongoing military operations aimed at flushing out terrorist elements from the region.

As of press time, security agencies had yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer in Borno State, ASP Kenneth Daso, were unsuccessful, as calls and messages seeking comments were not responded to.
