IPOB Accuses Governor Soludo of Sponsoring Atrocities Against Igbo Youths, Demands International Attention
The leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), through its Directorate of State (DOS), has issued a strong condemnation of what it described as the “systematic dehumanisation, torture, and extrajudicial killings” of innocent citizens in Anambra State under the watch of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
In a press release signed by Dr. Okadigbo Chinwendu, Press Secretary of the DOS, IPOB accused Governor Soludo of importing and arming criminal gangs from riverine areas of Nigeria, disguising them as a security outfit to operate in Anambra State. These groups, the statement alleged, are operating under names such as Udo Ga Achi and Ndi Aka Odo, unleashing terror on Igbo youths, women, and perceived political opponents with impunity and total disregard for human rights.
According to Dr. Chinwendu, one of the most shocking incidents occurred on 23rd July 2025, when a young National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member was allegedly stripped naked, beaten, and humiliated by men linked to these militias. IPOB described the assault as “a shameful exhibition of violence against womanhood” and insisted that it was only one among thousands of similar cases that never make it to the public eye. “Had she died,” the statement read, “her violated body would have been dumped by the roadside like others before her, with blame conveniently shifted onto IPOB or ESN.”
The group alleged that Governor Soludo’s militias have been responsible for widespread atrocities since his assumption of office, including rape, torture, extortion, kidnappings, and forced disappearances. Innocent youths, it claimed, are frequently targeted under false accusations of criminality, while many political opponents and critics of the governor have allegedly been locked up in secret detention facilities across Anambra State. “Over ninety-five percent of the victims are innocent,” Dr. Chinwendu stated. “They are not criminals, but ordinary youths and rivals who have become collateral damage in the governor’s desperate attempt to consolidate power.”
The press release further accused Governor Soludo of adopting the same brutal tactics once used by the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), drawing comparisons between his militia’s operations and those that triggered nationwide protests in 2020. IPOB said that rather than bringing peace, security, or economic growth to the state, Governor Soludo had instead earned himself the reputation of a “professor of killings” who has weaponised violence to silence his people.
Dr. Chinwendu recalled that many families across Anambra have been devastated by these actions: mothers rendered childless, husbands and wives turned into widowers and widows, and children orphaned. He insisted that such atrocities would not go unpunished, declaring that “the land of Ọmanbala and the entire Ala-Igbo will require the blood of these victims from Governor Soludo.”
The organisation stressed that the recent viral video of the NYSC corps member’s assault is just a small glimpse into a much larger crisis. Many others, according to IPOB, have suffered quietly in undisclosed locations where they are subjected to cruel treatment, unlawful incarceration, and in some cases, summary execution. “The reality is chilling,” the statement continued. “Behind closed doors, hundreds of vibrant youths have been killed, many more have been left crippled, and countless others are missing without a trace.”
IPOB also extended its warning to other politicians in the region, particularly Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, accusing them of sponsoring similar campaigns of violence and intimidation. The group said that such leaders, motivated by selfish political ambitions and allegiance to external interests, are the real sponsors of insecurity in Ala-Igbo. It warned that unless they immediately stop and retrace their steps, the land of Biafra would “consume them without mercy.”
The statement highlighted that, in just four years, Soludo’s administration had allegedly presided over the deaths of hundreds of young people through the activities of armed groups identified as AVG, Udo Ga Achi, and Agunechemba. It claimed that many more have been turned into orphans, widows, and widowers by the same militia groups, while some have been permanently disabled after severe beatings and torture by Ndi Aka Odo.
Concluding, IPOB reaffirmed its commitment to defend the dignity and lives of Biafrans, warning that it will no longer fold its arms while innocent Igbo youths are brutalised, raped, kidnapped, and murdered on their own land. “This madness must stop now,” Dr. Okadigbo Chinwendu declared on behalf of the DOS. “Governor Soludo has within four years brought destruction and bloodshed to Anambra. If he is not stopped, Ọmanbala will be turned into a river of blood.”
