"PDP Crisis Resolved: Governors Nullify Suspensions, Restore Status Quo"

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum has successfully resolved the internal crisis rocking the party, directing conflicting members to return to their previous positions. This development comes after a meeting of the governors concluded in the early hours of Tuesday, with Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, announcing the resolution.

According to Governor Mohammed, the PDP, as a political organization, is expected to experience disagreements, but these issues can be addressed and overcome. "There is no crisis. The Governors, BoT, the National Assembly caucus have agreed that the NWC should revert to status quo," he stated, confirming that all suspensions have been nullified.

The PDP has been grappling with internal conflicts since its presidential primary election before the 2023 general elections. Some stakeholders worked against the party's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who lost to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ahead of the 2027 elections, party stakeholders sought to reconcile aggrieved chieftains and called for the removal of incumbent national chairman, Umar Damagum.

The crisis escalated last Friday when the PDP's national leadership split into two factions, led by Yayari Mohammed and Umar Damagum. The Damagum faction suspended National Legal Adviser Adeyemi Ajibade and National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba. In response, Ologunagba declared the suspension of Damagum and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu.

However, a Federal High Court ruling on the same day prevented the National Executive Committee and Board of Trustees from dismissing Damagum as acting national chairman until the party's convention in December 2025. Justice Peter Lifu delivered the ruling via Zoom, stipulating that only Damagum should be acknowledged as the PDP's acting national chairman.

Governor Bala Mohammed, accompanied by Damagum and other PDP stakeholders, confirmed the nullification of suspensions against Damagum, Ologunagba, and National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade. The party has reverted to its previous status, paving the way for unity and progress.

Mohammed emphasized that the PDP Governors Forum's decision was unanimous, with all governors, the Board of Trustees, and the National Assembly caucus agreeing to revert to the status quo. This resolution aims to strengthen the party's unity and prepare it for the 2027 general elections.

The PDP's ability to resolve its internal conflicts will be crucial in its bid to challenge the ruling APC. With this resolution, the party can now focus on re strategizing and regrouping ahead of the next elections.

The nullification of suspensions marks a significant step towards resolving the PDP's internal crisis. As the party moves forward, its leaders will need to address underlying issues and work towards building a stronger, more united front.

For now, the status quo remains, and the PDP is poised to embark on a new era of unity and cooperation. The party's stakeholders will be watching closely as the PDP navigates this critical period in its history.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
