Boko Haram Ambush: Dozens Killed in Fierce Gunfight with Civil Defence Operatives in Kaduna

A devastating ambush by Boko Haram insurgents on a monitoring team from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has resulted in scores of deaths and several missing operatives. The team was inspecting national grid installations in Shiroro LGA, Niger, when attacked.

On Tuesday, NSCDC spokesperson Babawale Afolabi revealed that over 200 terrorists, armed with sophisticated weapons, ambushed the convoy from a hill in Kaduna. The NSCDC team, comprising nine officers and 71 other ranks, was escorting expatriates from a mining site when attacked.

"The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps' monitoring team for the national grid installation... came under heavy attack by the deadly Boko Haram terrorist group," Afolabi stated. "Unknown to them, over 200 dreaded armed Boko Haram elements had laid ambush on a vengeful mission."

Despite being outnumbered, the NSCDC operatives bravely repelled the attack, neutralizing over 50 terrorists. However, seven operatives are currently missing in action, and efforts are underway to locate them. Several others sustained injuries and are receiving medical treatment.

This attack highlights the escalating violence and threats to national infrastructure. The NSCDC has been deployed to protect national grid installations, which have suffered recent attacks and vandalism, leading to nationwide power blackouts.
