"Ex-Enugu Deputy Speaker's Son Implicated in Gun Supply to Kidnappers: Family Allegedly Tries to Scuttle Case"
A shocking revelation has emerged in Enugu State, Nigeria, as Egiji Atigwe, son of former Deputy Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. David Atigwe, has been accused of supplying guns to armed robbers and kidnappers.
During an interrogation, a suspect identified as Emzor confessed to security agents that Egiji provided the gang with firearms, including a double-barrelled gun. Emzor, who was arrested for his involvement in robbery and kidnapping activities in Igboeze North local government area and other parts of Nsukka zone, named Egiji as the supplier of guns.
In a 4-minute video obtained by SaharaReporters, Emzor, on his knees and handcuffed, revealed the names of his gang members, including Star Boy and Cobra. When questioned about the proceeds of crime, Emzor stated that Egiji handled the money and he received N35,000 as his share.
However, efforts to reach the Enugu State Police Command for comment were unsuccessful, as DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the Command's spokesperson, did not respond to calls or texts.
Sources close to the investigation have revealed that Egiji's family is attempting to scuttle the case, with allegations that the state government has intervened. The Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Urama, reportedly visited the Enugu-Ezike divisional police to request a thorough investigation.
This development raises concerns about potential obstruction of justice and underscores the need for transparency in the investigation.
The public awaits further updates on this case, as the allegations against Egiji Atigwe and his family's alleged involvement have sparked widespread concern.
