President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the Acting Accountant General of the Federation, effective immediately. This move follows the pre-retirement leave of the outgoing AGF, Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein .
Ogunjimi brings over 30 years of extensive experience in financial management across the public and private sectors. As the most senior director in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, he has held significant positions, including Director of Funds at the OAGF and Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs .
A chartered accountant, certified fraud examiner, chartered stockbroker, and chartered security and investment specialist, Ogunjimi's academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and a Master's in Finance and Accounting . His wealth of experience and notable competence are expected to ensure the continued effectiveness of the treasury operations as the country advances its economic reform agenda.
President Tinubu expressed confidence in Ogunjimi's ability to lead the treasury operations effectively, emphasizing the critical role of the Accountant General's office in the nation's economic reforms. "The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation is pivotal to our nation's treasury management operations," Tinubu stated .
The President also praised the outgoing AGF, Dr. Madein, for her dedication and service to the nation. Dr. Madein, who will officially retire on March 7, 2025, has reached the statutory retirement age in the civil service .
This appointment aims to ensure a seamless transition in the nation's treasury management and consolidate ongoing reforms under the Tinubu administration .
